Description

About the Author

James Leonard Casey is a retired primary school principal from Ballycumber. He is a native of Drimagh and never lost the grá for his beloved Dublin. He started his role at Boher National School in 1964 and married “the love of his life” Teresa Buckley in 1967. A creative mind with a love for the outdoors, Len nurtured the minds of his students from the start.

“The Adventure” was written as a classroom project with the 5th and 6th class pupils in the early 70s. Over the course of the next 30 years, every student who passed through Boher National School learned the story by heart when in Master Casey’s class.

The story has a local legendary status around Ballycumber and anyone of a certain age perks up at the mention of it. It is like Peig Sayers but without the fear factor. Many a state English exam started with “The day was bright and warm and the sun shone brilliantly from an azure sky..”
