Blog
Welcome to “A Garden of Adventure”
Years ago, my sister-in-law Méabh suggested I start a blog. “There’s always so much going on in your garden with the birds and animals,” she said. “You’d never be stuck for things to write about and people would be interested.”
She was right, of course. Looking back now, I realise I should have acted on her advice. Over the years, so many wonderful characters have come and gone—each with its own unique story. Pets with personalities that lit up our lives, wild visitors who brought mystery and excitement, and countless little dramas that unfolded just outside our window.
I regret not starting then, but I’m grateful for one thing: I’ve always taken photos. Over the years, I’ve captured so many moments—snapshots of life and, sadly, sometimes loss too; of growth, change, and the connections we’ve had in this garden. These photos are like a little time capsule, and now feels like the perfect moment to open it.
This blog is my way of revisiting those stories, honouring the animals and moments that have shaped our lives, and sharing them with anyone who happens to wander down this path. Along the way, I’ll also be documenting the present—because here, something is always in the process of happening.
Whether it’s a fox appearing at dawn, a nosy hedgehog scuttling about, or one of the pets up to no good, there’s always some mischief or magic to discover. I hope these stories bring you the same joy they’ve brought us—and who knows, maybe they’ll inspire you to take a closer look at the small wonders around you.
So here I am, years later, finally starting that blog. I look forward to seeing where this journey goes.

The Evolution of a Garden
The Evolution of a Garden In the beginning, our garden wasn’t much to look at. A wild, overgrown quarter-acre, it had thrived on neglect, becoming a forgotten little wilderness. Thirty years earlier, it had been a green space where my wife, Steph, played tennis as a...
